With Florida’s spring practice in the books, coach Jim McElwain released a lengthy update on various Gators injuries Wednesday afternoon.

McElwain confirmed parts of the report that redshirt freshman QB Kyle Trask underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus, which could sideline him 4-6 weeks. Florida’s release simply stated that Trask “minor knee surgery” with a recovery time of four weeks.

It was also revealed that LB Camrin Knight had surgery on his left knee Wednesday, and will also have surgery on the right knee in May. The release states that 22 players were injured at some point during spring, and only three are “not currently on track to be cleared for the start of fall practice.” Those three are DE Jordan Sherit, WR Rick Wells and TE Harry Gornto.

When he was healthy, Sherit on UF’s defensive line last season. He appeared in 10 games (seven starts), recording 38 tackles, five tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries. In the regular-season finale against Florida State, Sherit was injured when DT Caleb Brantley rolled on his knee. The Tampa native did not participate in Florida’s postseason games (SEC Championship, Outback Bowl) or spring practice. He did offer an encouraging update in March on his rehabilitation.

Wells, a redshirt freshman, had leg surgery in March after suffering an injury in practice. UF says all three will be reevaluated closer to fall camp, which traditionally opens in early August, and their statuses could change prior to the first practice.

The four players injured during Friday night’s spring game – TE Moral Stephens, DB Joseph Putu, WR Tyrie Cleveland and CB Duke Dawson – are all expected to be recovered soon.
