Most of the award watch lists are completely boring, but the Maxwell Award, honoring college football’s best all-around player, is of particular interest, and this year, 21 SEC players appear on the initial list.

The SEC led all conferences, with the next highest being the Big 12 with 12.

Last year, Louisville QB Lamar Jackson took home the award in addition to the winning the Heisman Trophy, and he’ll have a shot to win the award in back-to-back seasons.

There weren’t many surprises and no notable omissions from the SEC:

  • Austin Allen, QB, Arkansas
  • Jake Bentley, QB, South Carolina
  • Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia
