Mitch Mustain had an interesting response when asked to call Gus Malzahn and request a return to Arkansas.

Malzahn is currently coaching Auburn in the SEC Championship, but that has not stopped rumors from swirling this week. Some analysts have speculated that Malzahn would leave Auburn and return to take the head coach job at Arkansas if the Tigers lose the SEC Championship to Georgia. Malzahn was Mustain’s OC with the Razorbacks in 2006.

That stay at Arkansas ended abruptly for both Mustain and Malzahn. Malzahn left for Tulsa in 2007 after just one season with the Razorbacks while Mustain transferred to USC following his departure.

During his year at Arkansas, Mustain appeared in 12 games and threw for 894 yards, 10 TDs, and 9 interceptions. His connection to the coach and the Razorbacks apparently led one fan on Twitter to encourage Mustain to contact Malzahn about the open job.

Mustain did reply with a tweet of his own, but it doesn’t look like he has much of a soft spot for Arkansas. He said he would sleep fine if the program never won another game and provided an interesting take on Arkansas:

A win for Auburn in the SEC Championship would put the Tigers in the Playoff and likely quiet a bit of the noise surrounding Malzahn, but coming away with the win will not be an easy task.
