Tennessee fans may have mixed reactions about this.

ESPN Monday Night Football play-by-play announcer Sean McDonough seemed to troll Tennessee during the live broadcast of Monday’s NFL game.

During the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals broadcast, McDonough and color analyst Jon Gruden — who has long been rumored to be a candidate for the Volunteers’ head coaching opening — discussed the Vols’ search.

McDonough seemed to make fun of — or perhaps enable — the Grumors after former UT cornerback Cam Sutton made a big play for the Steelers.

McDonough emphasized to Gruden that Sutton’s alma mater needs a new head coach.

“Sure do … Hopefully it’ll be a matter of time,” Gruden said. “It’s been a long time since they solved that.”

McDonough responded:

“If you had just answered the call and said yes, you could have saved them an awful lot of trouble there on Rocky Top,” McDonough said.

The announcers then got right back to calling the game. That had to have been an awkward moment for Gruden.
