Faced with a host of sanctions from the NCAA, including a bowl ban and loss of scholarships, Ole Miss has reportedly loosened its restrictions to players looking to leave for a fresh start.

Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports reported that some of those initial limitations have been lifted. It’s unclear of the details of revised limitations, as they initially barred players like quarterback Shea Patterson from transferring to an SEC school, or a school on Ole Miss’ schedule the next two years.

Particularly intriguing will be how the Rebels handle non-seniors as Ross Dellenger of The Advocate in Baton Rouge believes those players would still need a waiver to play in the SEC. There are five known players seeking a transfer: Safety Deontay Anderson, defensive back Jalen Julius, linebacker Jerrion Street, wide receiver Tre Nixon and Patterson.

The Clarion-Ledger on Tuesday quoted Athletics Director Ross Bjork as saying: “None of the students objected directly to us about those restrictions and if there were objections and a legitimate reason, normally what we would do is work with the student-athlete and their family.

“Taking the student-athletes best interest into account, coach (Matt Luke) and I, we talked about it this morning and so to be consistent, we’re removing any restrictions on their permission to contact for those who have requested permission.”

The Clarion-Ledger added in its report that players with multiple years of eligibility would need to seek a waiver from the NCAA for immediate eligibility, and also the SEC to transfer within the conference.
