After racking up well over 2,000 all-purpose yards in his first two seasons in College Station, the most talented offensive player Jimbo Fisher has inherited at Texas A&M may be running back Trayveon Williams.

The rising junior recently expressed his excitement in learning Fisher’s offense, which will utilize a fullback for the first time in his college career, and is hopeful the new scheme creates more one-on-one situations with safeties this season in the open field.

Based on what Fisher had to say about Williams Wednesday evening, the team will look to get the talented running back the ball in a number of different ways. However, the part of Williams’ game that has most impressed his new head coach is the running back’s willingness and physicality when it comes to pass blocking in the system.

“I like him. He’s gettin’ it. I’ll tell you what he’s been very impressive with: his pass blocking. Stepping up and hitting guys right in the mouth now. Playing, trying to be physical that way,” Fisher said.

“Catching the ball, diversity in his route running. We’ve put in a lot of different things for him to spread him out and running the ball — inside or out. He’s getting a good feel for how we are blocking things, and I feel very comfortable with him. I think he’s doing a really nice job.”

While Fisher is mainly known for his expertise with quarterbacks, it won’t be a surprise if his first A&M offense runs thru Williams next fall. Until a quarterback emerges, or one arrives on campus that best suits Fisher’s style, the best option the Aggies may have is to ride the offense thru their best player.
