Tennessee fans may not think their team has much of a chance at No. 21 Auburn this Saturday, but the man who used to coach the Tigers believes otherwise.

According to a report from GoVols.com, 247Sports’ Tennessee website, Chizik told the Knoxville Quarterback Club on Monday that the Volunteers have a chance to pull an upset on the Plains.

“Last thing about Tennessee football,” said Chizik, who guided Auburn to a national championship in 2010, “I’m going to say this, and maybe I can give you guys some hope: This game this weekend, going to Auburn, is a winnable football game.

“Tennessee has a chance at Auburn. Auburn is reeling a little bit right now and the pressure is on.”

The Tigers are coach Gus Malzahn are likely feeling some of that pressure after a 23-9 loss at Mississippi State last week. Auburn has slipped all the way to No. 21 in the AP Top 25 and is likely out of the SEC West race thanks to its other conference loss to LSU.

Chizik thinks the Tigers’ slide could continue into this week against Tennessee. We’ll see if his comments were correct when the Volunteers (2-3, 0-2 SEC) face Auburn (4-2, 1-2) at noon ET on Saturday.
