TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Third Saturday in October is one of the more stories rivalries in college football history, but Alabama-Tennessee has looked more like a glorified scrimmage over the last decade.

Top-ranked Alabama (7-0, 4-0 SEC) plays at Tennessee (3-3, 1-2) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on CBS. The Volunteers are coming off a win over Auburn, the team’s first SEC win in the last two years. But that won’t help them stop the inevitable on Saturday afternoon. Here are five bold predictions.

Alabama will cover the spread

Alabama has been up and down when it comes to covering the spread this season. The Crimson Tide enters its matchup with Tennessee on Saturday as a four-touchdown favorite.

I fully expect Alabama to cover that number. Tennessee is probably getting some credit for their win over Auburn, and Tua Tagovailoa’s knee injury has created a bit of uncertainty, but Alabama should have no problems covering.

After throwing for 4 touchdowns in the first three games, Hurts has thrown only 1 in the last four. In Hurts’ defense, he hasn’t been given a ton of opportunities to throw, but look for that to change on Saturday.

Hurts should get plenty of snaps because this one will be out of hand early, and also because Alabama will look to protect Tagovailoa’s knee injury.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Hurts took over in the second quarter of this one. He has shown plenty of improvement as a passer, but there is still work to be done when it comes to going through progressions. Saturday should give Hurts another opportunity to show that he has come a long way as a quarterback.

Alabama will have two 100-yard rushers

We haven’t seen a true rushing explosion from Alabama yet, but it feels like it’s coming. What better stage than on the road against a rival. Look for two of Alabama’s top running backs to get more than 100 yards against the Volunteers.

My guess would be Damien Harris and Najee Harris. Both have individually had 100-yard rushing performances this season, but Saturday should give them an opportunity to do it on the same field.

Butch Jones will smoke his first cigar in the rivalry

This has been one of the more entertaining side stories to this game. Alabama running back Josh Jacobs said Tuesday that the players often joke with Jones, the former Tennessee head coach, because he hasn’t been able to smoke a cigar during the rivalry. That all changes on Saturday. Jones is an analyst on Alabama’s staff who coach Nick Saban said works with offensive coordinator Mike Locksley as much as possible.

Big props to any player who posts a photo with Jones puffing a stogie.

Alabama will intercept 3 passes

Tennessee quarterback Jarrett Guarantano is coming off his best game of the season, throwing for 328 yards and 2 touchdowns against Auburn. For perspective, Guarantano hadn’t thrown for more than 175 yards in another game this season.

Alabama’s defense will bring Guarantano back to Earth and force the Vols quarterback into multiple interceptions. Alabama’s defense is trending up after shutting down Drew Lock and Missouri’s high-powered offense.
