As Ed Orgeron settled into the LSU bye week focused on recruiting, and an appearance at a New Orleans touchdown club, he also wanted to make a point about the controversial targeting call against LB Devin White that has gripped the SEC this week.

“Obviously, we’re going to miss Devin,” Orgeron said in an interview with “Off The Bench” on 104.5 ESPN in Baton Rouge. “It’s very unfortunate. I think it was very unfair, I don’t think it was the right call, but there’s nothing we can do about it now. We got to move on, we can’t blink. That’s in the past and we’re moving forward.”

Patrick Queen was among the players Orgeron said could fill in for White. Orgeron was then asked how LSU continues to replace players at various positions throughout the season.

“We talk to the team about that, next man up, we don’t blink, it’s a mindset,” he said. “We don’t talk about it, we don’t complain. Our team rules are no whining, no complaining, no excuses.”

The biggest difference in Alabama from previous seasons is QB Tua Tagovailoa and the run-pass options the offense presents, he said.

Though he’s dealt with the White fallout, Orgeron said LSU’s hot start has spilled over to recruiting. The feedback in recruiting is a positive, and prospects have noticed team camaraderie, especially at the Georgia game.

“The atmosphere was unbelievable and the more times we can have guys at games and sell Tiger Stadium, education, the total program that we’re doing, we seem like we’re on the right track.”

In the upcoming Alabama game, having more trust and putting more on QB Joe Burrow is imperative.

“You have to,” Orgeron said. “There’s no way you can play in a box against Alabama. You have to spread them out, but again, when you spread them out, it’s about protection first, and getting rid of the ball quick.”

Orgeron said that DL Breiden Fehoko has turned out to be the team’s emotional leader, and his return against Alabama would help in the rotation.
