Chad Morris and Ed Orgeron, who will face off as opposing coaches Saturday, were almost on the same Ole Miss staff in the mid-2000s.

During Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference, both head men were asked about their job interview at an Oxford Waffle House when Orgeron, now LSU’s coach, was running the Rebels program. Morris, then the coach at Stephenville High School in Texas, divulged what he remembered from their interaction more than a decade ago and also briefly previewed Arkansas’ upcoming showdown with the Tigers.

The Razorbacks (2-7, 0-5 SEC) host No. 7 LSU (7-2, 4-2) at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. You can read Morris’ teleconference responses below.

On his interview with Coach O, do you recall that? Was it really at the Waffle House?

  • It was at the Waffle House. I went to the house as well. I think Hugh was already on his staff. I went with Jevan (Snead). Jevan went on an official (visit) up there, and I went up there with him. … We had a follow-up at the AAFC convention in Houston.

What position was that for?

  • I believe wide receivers (coach), maybe tight ends, maybe inside wide receivers.

What did you get at the Waffle House?

  • I’m sure I got the No. 1. I got Ed to pay for it. It was good.

On the night game against LSU:

  • Extremely excited. I’ve heard so much about the environment. I’m ready for it, excited for our seniors and our players.

On LSU’s downhill running game:

  • They will change the tempo up on you. They play at a fast pace, then slow it down, huddle up. Joe (Burrow) is very capable of running the ball. The running backs, they base everything on (them) and get the ball out to the wide receivers and tight ends.
