Fans of defensive line play will be in for a treat when No. 16 Mississippi State and No. 1 Alabama clash this weekend.

Both SEC West squads possess two high-caliber defensive linemen, which Bulldogs coach Joe Moorhead was quick to point out during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference. Mississippi State boasts Jeffery Simmons and Montez Sweat, while the Crimson Tide is anchored by Quinnen Williams and Raekwon Davis.

Their talents will be on display when the Bulldogs (6-3, 2-3 SEC) visit Alabama (9-0, 6-0) at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. Moorhead also previewed the game during the teleconference, and you can read his responses below.

On the Mississippi State defense, what do you think other people see in them?

  • I think they are impressed with personnel. We are sound, aggressive, we stop the run and play well on situational football.

On having two great defensive linemen:

  • Very similar to what we will see against Alabama. It’s tough to double them both. Our pressures and packages give them a chance to see some one-on-one matchups.

On LSU-Alabama film:

  • I think they held them to 15 yards rushing, got a shutout. Very well-coached, very physical. They do a great job, great awareness on zone coverages. The pass rush continues to improve on a weekly basis. It’s impressive.

On Tua Tagovailoa:

  • He’s got a very calm and cool demeanor about him. … I’ve been impressed with him across the board.

On Nick Fitzgerald’s evolution in the offense:

  • There have been some highs and lows; getting suspended hurt him. (Against) Kansas State was solid, but I think his best games have come recently against A&M and Louisiana Tech.

On Bama’s defense and their progress

  • I think the most impressive thing is the talent and Coach (Nick) Saban taking that talent and getting them to acclimate into the system.
