O.J. Howard burst onto the scene during Alabama’s win against Clemson in the 2016 College Football Playoff national championship game, during which he caught five balls for 208 yards and two touchdowns. The tight end followed that up with four catches for 106 yards and a score when the teams squared off in a national title rematch the following year.

Less than two years into Howard’s professional career, it’s safe to say that his big-game prowess has translated to the NFL.

Howard is Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded tight end so far this season, partly thanks to his league-leading 16.8 yards per catch among players at his position who’ve seen at least 20 targets. Through nine games for Tampa Bay, the former Crimson Tide player has turned 29 receptions into 487 yards and five touchdowns.

Howard has already outdone himself in terms of catches (26) and yards (432) from his rookie season, and he needs just one more score to match his total from a year ago. For those who watched Howard at Alabama, seeing the former first-round pick play so well in the NFL shouldn’t be a surprise.
