Georgia concludes a memorable 2018 regular season on Saturday with its annual showdown with Georgia Tech, this time in Athens at Sanford Stadium. The game kicks off at noon EST (TV: SEC Network).

No. 5 Georgia is 10-1 on the season; Georgia Tech is 7-4. The Bulldogs won the SEC East, so they’ll turn right around and play No. 1-ranked Alabama next Saturday in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.

Before that, here are five things I want to see from the Bulldogs against the Yellow Jackets:

1. Above everything, stay healthy!

This is a rivalry game, and in the state of Georgia, it clearly matters. But let’s be honest here. What really matters is next week’s SEC title game with Alabama, and it sure would be nice to enter that game as healthy as possible. You can’t avoid injuries while playing football; it’s part of the deal. But what you can do is hope for the best, and also try to get a big lead early so some of the banged-up starters can get to the sideline more quickly.

2. Don’t get confused by Tech’s option offense

Georgia Tech’s option offense is difficult to prepare for, because they come at you with the run from dozens of sets. It can be confusing, so sticking to the game plan and not missing your assignments is critical. Georgia does spend a little time on it in practice every week during the season, because there’s just no way to prepare for it in a week. The key is containing the edges and shedding blocks inside. Avoiding the big plays is a must.

3. Continue to break big plays

It’s Georgia that has been great at breaking big plays all season. Eight different runners have a gain of 30 yards or more, and eight receivers have a reception of 30 yards or more, too. That’s depth and danger at the skill positions, and the Georgia Tech defense can be exploited. When Georgia has the ball, they definitely have the edge in speed, and the Bulldogs’ offensive line should have good success up front. That should help break some big plays.

4. Jake Fromm keeps getting better

Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm has been really good since the LSU loss. He’s 49-for-69 (70 percent) since then and has proven to be a good leader whom everyone on the offense respects. It will be good to see him be sharp again on Saturday, if only because it would be great to see him stroll into Atlanta with a boat-load of confidence.

5. Fans give this team a rousing cheer farewell

Sure, there were plenty of lofty expectations coming into this season, and they’ve mostly been met so far. A win Saturday would be good for 11-1 on the year, which is pretty darned good. It’s not perfect, but it’s good enough to send the Bulldogs on to where they want to go, the SEC Championship Game and, hopefully, beyond. With this being the last home game in Athens, let’s hope the fans show their appreciation at the end. It has been a fun season.
