Kirk Herbstreit drops controversial final top 6 before College Football Playoff rankings
Kirk Herbstreit is going to catch a lot of flack before Sunday’s final College Football Playoff Rankings.
Following the SEC Championship Game in which No. 1 Alabama beat No. 4 Georgia 35-28, Kirk Herbstreit has Georgia moving up — not moving out — in the top four. Herbie has the Bulldogs jumping No. 3 Notre Dame.
Earlier in ABC’s broadcast of Clemson-Pitt, Herbstreit carried the torch for the Bulldogs and explained his reasoning.
“I don’t think it’s about the four spot — I guess it is. For me, Georgia moves to No. 3,” Herbstreit said during the ABC broadcast. “That’s going to upset everybody but I’m sorry. I don’t think Georgia is out — I think they move up. If they are going to move at all, they are going to move up. I think Notre Dame will move down to No. 4.”
“I don’t get caught up in champions I get caught up in ‘best.’”
Herbstreit said his rankings were based on what the committee should do, not what he actually thinks they will do. The ESPN analyst has No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Clemson, No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 Notre Dame in the final four. No. 5 Oklahoma and No. 6 Ohio State gets left out.
