It didn’t take long for LSU to act following the explosive report claiming the FBI has wiretapped audio of Will Wade discussing an “offer” made to a recruit with a former agent that has since been convicted following his connection to an FBI investigation into the corruption in college basketball. That recruit signed with LSU following the exchange and is currently on the team.

If you missed the news, LSU announced Wade has been suspended indefinitely by the school on Friday. With Wade out, assistant coach Tony Benford has been named the interim coach in Baton Rouge. Apparently, despite all that’s going on in Baton Rouge, LSU is committed to participating in the upcoming SEC and NCAA Tournaments.

Following his suspension, Wade has released the following statement to Amie Just of NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune:

“Serving as the Head Basketball Coach at LSU has been the honor of my life. I love this university and all it stands for. From day one, I’ve been focused on building a winning program made up of excellent coaches and staff and a team of first-rate student athletes.

“I cannot comment at this time on various media reports, except to say that they do not begin to tell the full story. I understand the University had to take action before all the facts are in, but I would ask everyone to withhold their judgment until the record is complete.

“To my players and coaches, I support you 100%, and I will be with you in spirit as the season progresses. Your best response to this is to narrow your focus and make sure the last part of the season is the strongest part!”

The Tigers have only one game remaining on the schedule, a home game against Vanderbilt, and are currently tied atop the SEC standings with Tennessee after beginning the season 15-2 in league play.
