Ohio State’s epic Friday news dump of 2,000 pages of texts/emails to and from Urban Meyer is already proving to be a great source of entertainment for the online community of college football media and fans.

Among the initial Meyer-SEC stories was uncovered that the Ohio State coach suggested leaking to the media that three Buckeyes assistants – Alex Grinch, Greg Schiano and Zach Smith – turned down offers to join the Alabama staff. There’s some natural skepticism as to whether all three were truly offered to join Nick Saban’s staff and turned UA down, but another unearthed text suggests that Smith was indeed offered.

In a message sent on Jan. 21, 2018, Meyer writes, “Vrabel offered Ryan day off Coord job. Going after him real hard. This (expletive) never stops. Will update. Zach smith was offered wr/passing game Coord at Alabama. Went there to talk to Saban. At first thought maybe he should go then decided that all effort I’ve put u to him and it’s Alabama. I told him to stay and he turned it down. Every f–––– day it’s something. Thx”

USA Today columnist Dan Wolken shared screenshots of the messages on Twitter.

Alabama is not mentioned in this message between Meyer and Smith, but judging by the timeline established, it is presumably the job offer for Smith that they are discussing.

Talk about dodging a bullet for the Crimson Tide with Smith staying at Ohio State instead of going to Alabama.
