Things around the Arkansas football program are a little rough right now as the Razorbacks are off to yet another slow start in the 2019 season, reaching a new low this past Saturday when they were defeated by San Jose State, 31-24, in Fayetteville.

While rumors of Chad Morris’ job security are flying everywhere — he is 4-12 through one-plus season and 0-9 in SEC play –, Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek was quick to answer where or not the coach is, in fact, already coaching for his job just 16 games into his tenure.

“Absolutely not,” Yurachek said.

Now, while Yurachek claims Morris’ job is safe, there could be a lot of hubbub come November if the coach doesn’t right the ship. The four wins on Morris’ belt right now aren’t exactly impressive: Eastern Illinois, Tulsa, seven-point victory over Portland State and Colorado State. The losses, including the Spartans this past Saturday and North Texas and at Colorado State last year, are even worse. Add in the fact that Morris has come up short in all nine SEC games so far, and his seat is anything but lukewarm.

Things will not get any easier for the Razorbacks down the road. This Saturday they travel to Arlington, Texas to face No. 23 Texas A&M in a neutral-site game and, after a visit to Kentucky, Morris’ squad battles Auburn and Alabama — both ranked in the top ten — in back-to-back weeks.

Looking at the rest of the schedule, and going by how Arkansas has looked on the field this season, it is easy to see only one win possibly left, that coming on Nov. 9 when the Razorbacks host Western Kentucky.
