Texas A&M is filling out its future schedules and has added an in-state opponent for a game in 2022.

The Aggies will play the Sam Houston State Bearkats on Sept. 3, 2022, at Kyle Field, the Bearkats reported. The Bearkats will be taking on the Aggies for the 13th time in the history of the series and the first time since the 2013 season. This is the first in-state opponent to be scheduled for the Aggies in the early 2020s.

The Aggies are also set to play Appalachian State, Miami and UMass in 2022.

Asked about his difficult schedule this season, coach Jimbo Fisher offered some insight into his scheduling philosophy at SEC Media Days.

“It is what it is. You either embrace it or you run from it,” he said. “But the key is laying the foundation for the future of our organization, which can be right now,” he said. “I keep saying that. People keep saying, ‘Well, you’re looking (to the future).’ No. I’m always looking for the future. I’m looking for the now, also. Living in the now and understanding and embracing tough games … in this league, when is it not gonna be tough? Tell me when it’s not.”
