One debate that always takes place during the college football season involves the AP Top 25 poll — which teams deserve to be in that aren’t, and which ranked teams shouldn’t be included?

There are not always right or wrong answers, but it does provide for interesting conversations.

In a Sports Illustrated article on Tuesday, several college football writers looked at the rankings and gave their thoughts about which teams are undeservedly ranked and which ones are getting snubbed.

One team that came up in the latter conversation was Missouri, as Max Meyer points out that the Tigers are just as deserving as some teams currently in the Top 25 poll, such as UCF, Utah and Michigan. He also pointed out that since a close road loss at Wyoming to open the season, Missouri has outscored West Virginia, Southeast Missouri and South Carolina by a combined 101 points.

“This is a very talented team that could end up finishing second in the SEC East because of a very favorable schedule,” Meyer stated in the article.

The Tigers’ two most challenging games don’t come until later in the season — Nov. 9 at No. 3 Georgia and Nov. 16 vs. No. 9 Florida. So, it’s quite possible that Missouri will go on a long winning streak over the next month and work its way into the rankings.

Ross Dellenger and Joan Niesen also mention Missouri in the Sports Illustrated article as a team that should be considered for a spot in the Top 25 poll.

“Missouri had a fluky loss to Wyoming, but since then, it’s looked downright dominant, especially on defense,” Niesen stated in the article.

The Tigers have a bye this weekend before hosting Troy on Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
