Stock is rising for Auburn freshman QB Bo Nix, and he’s set this week to face another freshman quarterback off to a good start in Garrett Shrader at Mississippi State.

But because Nix is off to such a good start, ESPN college football analyst Emmanuel Acho, in a recent episode of “Get Up!” on ESPN said beware of a drop off.

“Bo Nix has been a stud ever since he took over as a true freshman,” Acho said, according to Auburn Undercover. “But I’m just wondering, will he ever have a freshman moment? That Auburn defense has been nasty. Bo Nix has been great. I’ve taken notice. The whole nation has taken notice. But Mississippi State has got a freshman of their own. Garrett Shrader has come in and taken over for an injured quarterback. This dude puts his body on the line. Won SEC freshman of the week. Auburn Tigers? I’m not saying you’re going to lose but if Shrader comes out there balling like the realest freshman on the field, it’s a trap game.”

Shrader made his first career start last week against Kentucky and accounted for 305 yards of total offense, including rushing for 125 yards on 11 carries. He was 17-of-22 passing for 180 yards. Shrader accounted for all six of the Bulldogs’ 20-plus yard plays in the game, which included rushes of 49- and 36-yards.

Meanwhile, Nix is 56-for-104 passing for 645 yards and five touchdowns. Nix has been intercepted just twice, and not since the opener against Oregon, but he only had 106 passing yards in Auburn’s Week 4 win at Texas A&M.

The teams have split the last four meetings. The game is set to kick off at 6 p.m. local time at Auburn on ESPN.
