It’s customary for SEC coaches to share injury updates during their teleconference on Wednesday, but this week, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron didn’t have all that much information to share.

Orgeron said during the teleconference that the Tigers are “about as healthy” as they’ve been this year and gave credit to the trainers and doctors on his staff for his team’s health.

More specifically, the LSU coach said defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin “will be fine” while guard Donavaughn Campbell “has a slight injury” but “will be available if needed” in Week 8.

Wide receiver Terrace Marshall is the only key LSU contributor that will likely miss Saturday’s game.

Looking ahead to this Saturday’s matchup with Mississippi State, Orgeron also shared some thoughts on Bulldogs head coach Joe Moorhead. In one and a half seasons, Mississippi State is 11-8 under Moorhead, which has led to the coach receiving some criticism.

Orgeron said he can relate and called Moorhead a “fine gentleman and great coach” then added he thinks he’s also a “wonderful person.”

Here’s what else Orgeron said on Wednesday:

  • In creating successful environment in a program: Be yourself, everyone is unique, that’s what makes a team… make them comfortable and let them work.
  • On interviewing at Miss State (under Dan Mullen): I interviewed with Dan, he never offered him the job. I have a lot of respect for Dan. I spent time there, did a clinic, loved it up there. I don’t know if I would have took it or not but it was an option. — That was before I came to LSU.
  • On working on field goal accuracy after missing against Florida: Technique, all about technique, he has been phenomenal in practice. I think going out in front of a big crowd, young kicker, it’s tough on him… He will be a great kicker.
  • On Grant Delpit and the secondary: Done some really good things, they are some outstanding players. We need to play better as a unit, better pass rush, better coverage. I think we have improved as tacklers… I expect a strong finish.
  • On DL coach’s injury, how more involved are you coaching the DL this year? I’m always going to be with the DL working but when we go to team period, I’m the head coach so it’s a nice mix.
  • On DL rotation, is that the most you’ve ever rotated them? Yes and we are going to continue to do that
thoughts on Joe Moorhead catching hell: Joe Moorhead is a fine gentleman and a great coach, I think he is a wonderful person. I have had my share of those days, you have to block out the news. The families hear that, I wish it wasn’t a part of that.
  • On rotation on defense, depth there: We want to play great defense, we want to get better. We needed more points to win a championship and that’s why we did it (changed the offense).
