Lane Kiffin isn’t coming to Ole Miss alone.

During Kiffin’s introductory press conference on Monday, the new Rebels head coach announced that he’ll be bringing two assistants from his Florida Atlantic staff with him to Ole Miss — running backs coach Kevin Smith and head strength and conditioning coach Wilson Love.

Smith is a former NFL running back who played five seasons for the Detroit Lions following his collegiate playing career at UCF. He spent the last three seasons as the running backs coach at Florida Atlantic, which was his first full-time assistant position.

Love was a defensive lineman at Alabama, where he graduated from in 2013. He was a defensive graduate assistant for the Crimson Tide in 2014, then served as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for them from 2015-16. He joined Kiffin’s staff at FAU as the head strength and conditioning coach prior to the 2017 season.

As for the rest of Kiffin’s staff at Ole Miss, he said that he’ll be interviewing the coaches who are still with the Rebels from the Matt Luke era prior to making decisions on who will stay.

Either way, Kiffin said he is focused on assembling a strong group of coaches.

“We’re going to hire a great staff of coaches who will help our players develop on and off the field,” Kiffin told the media.
