North Dakota State is a FCS powerhouse program, and it’s coming off of yet another national championship in the 2019 season. In fact, the program has 16 claimed national titles dating back to 1965.

NDSU dominated the FCS last season, going 16-0 and winning another championship — its third in a row. LSU, likewise, in Division I, did the same thing, led by Joe Burrow and a host of talented playmakers.

North Dakota State University visited the White House following its 2018 national championship; however, due to the coronavirus, the team hasn’t had the opportunity to visit this year.

So, President Trump, who’s an avid college football fan and even watched LSU beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa last season, asked North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum Wednesday if he thought the Bison could beat the Tigers.

“So I watched the game on television, the championship game,” President Trump said. “I didn’t know too much about it. I don’t get to watch too much (on) the television, football games, right? And I’m saying, ‘Man, that team is really good.’ They were really good. Then I got a call from Doug and I get a call from John, I get a call from the other very friendly senator, the three of them. They said, ‘Do you think we could possibly honor the team, because we honored the national champions?’ And my question was, ‘How would your team do against the national champions?’ They were pretty good, LSU, this year. Not a bad quarterback.”

“How do you think?” the president asked the Govenor. “I don’t know. You think OK, right?”

While NDSU would have gotten hammered by LSU, the Bison will get an opportunity in 2020 against Oregon, assuming the Pac-12 has a normal football season.
