The Mike Norvell era at Florida State is getting off to a rough start. Norvell’s Seminoles lost their season-opener to double-digit underdog Georgia Tech at home. Adding insult to injury, the Yellow Jackets, coming off a 3-9 season, started true freshman quarterback Jeff Sims, a former FSU commit Norvell pushed out of the 2020 class. Now, the first-year head coach is dealing with multiple wide receivers entering the NCAA transfer portal.

According to Brendan Sonnone of Noles247, D.J. Matthews and Isaiah Bolden both entered the portal on Tuesday.

A former 4-star recruit, Matthews joined the program as part of the 2017 recruiting class, Jimbo Fisher’s last with the program. Over the past three seasons, Matthews caught 84 passes for 809 yards and 5 touchdowns. He has been away from the team this fall, but not in the portal until now, due to COVID-19.

Bolden was a 4-star cornerback in 2018, the transition class between Fisher and Willie Taggart. He moved from cornerback to wide receiver in preseason camp. Bolden played in all 13 games last season, including a start in the Sun Bowl. He recorded an interception and 9 tackles last season, also working as a kickoff returner.

Neither wide receiver played in the 2020 season-opener. By entering the transfer portal they are allowed to be recruited by other programs but not bound to leave the university. Players are allowed to withdraw from the portal and return to the team.

Eight other FSU players have left the program since Norvell was hired.
