SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic tweets takeaways for every SEC team after Week 1
SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic was on hand for Auburn’s victory over Kentucky on Saturday, and the former Auburn offensive lineman is one of the most respected for breaking down the line of scrimmage.
On Sunday, he gave his weekly breakdown of each SEC team.
For example, he noted that the Auburn line of scrimmage on both sides needs to step up a bit, while Kentucky’s lines both played well despite the loss.
For arguably the most talked about team in the SEC, Mississippi State, Cubelic called it “unbelievable,” “impressive” and fun to watch. “Buckle your junk!”
Cubelic will get an up close view of LSU and Vanderbilt this week as they meet in Nashville for the second year in a row.
We do it each week…MY Sunday SEC takeaways:
ALABAMA: Other than flags & a bust or two on defense about as good an opener you could ask for. Deep ball from Jones nice. Moses as advertised. So much balance. Young has another gear though. Ball comes out different. Lot of twitch.

AUBURN: 2nd & 3rd level of defense were fantastic. Super athletic & can flat out run. DL a little short handed but got some big penetration late. Offense is Chads. Passing game more complex. Protection was fine. Williams a legit # 1. Takeaways massive. Run game needed this week

GEORGIA: Think we saw how the reps Newman took impacted things. Good news may be that there IS depth at QB. OL needed quick pass game to get run going. Defense may need to shoulder things for a few weeks. Problem is there’s a rivalry game in the on deck circle.

KENTUCKY: Got type of game they needed early. 3 TO’s, 1 took points off board & another put points on. OL/DL played well. 50/50 balls costly, same as UT last year. Couple rough flags also. LOT of damage self inflicted. Positives=Out gained & out rushed AU, converted 12 3rd downs.

LSU: Not much to say. Got caught. Sure, guys gone, defense different & best player out but yikes. Need more in the run game. Protection breakdowns can’t happen. QB has to gain confidence & improve vision. Just didn’t see things quick enough. Gilbert & Marshall were fun. Dores up.

MISSISSIPPI STATE: Unreal. Just fun to watch. Such an impressive performance. Costello has some shaky throws early but just kept going. Hill might be most important player in the SEC to his team. Draft stock will soar. Thompson looked like 2 years ago Thompson. Buckle your junk!

SOUTH CAROLINA: Smith is obvious go to guy but need others. Big drop late. Red Zone offense needs more TDs. Liked new offense. Commitment to the run will be there & backs ran hard. Brutal losing Mukuamu, need him this week. Can’t have play on punt/pick 6 & win those games.

TEXAS A&M: Not pretty but take 1-0 every day. DL was disruptive. That group has a real chance to be a strength. Have to improve on 3rd down. Late opt outs & camp injuries had to have an impact. Made decision run it in 2nd half & Spiller was nice. Will need all of it next week!

VANDERBILT: Impressed with Seals, didn’t have great protection but found some plays downfield. Has some confidence. OL will need some serious improvement. Looked like defense maybe gassed out in 2nd half. Still had takeaways & caused problems up front at times.
