The ideal game for a Dan Mullen team includes a balanced approach on offense. With Kyle Trask limited as a runner, Mullen has modified his scheme to better fit his quarterback’s elite passing skillset. In Saturday’s 31-19 win over Tennessee, Mullen’s Gators did their best Air Raid impression.

Florida finished with a pass-to-run ratio of nearly 3:1 (49 passes, 17 runs) in the 31-19 win over UT. Volunteers linebacker Henry To’o To’o saw it as stat-padding for the Gators’ Heisman Trophy candidate.

“We knew that they were trying to pad his stats up, throw the ball as much as they can for him,” To’o To’o said when asked about UF’s pass-heavy approach after the game. “So we just had to do a better job of executing.”

Florida running backs Malik Davis, Dameon Pierce and Nay’Quan Right were held to just 7 yards on 11 carries. The longest UF rushing plays came from wide receivers Jacob Copeland (17 yards) and Kadarius Toney (7 yards). The box score shows 19 total rushing yards on 17 carries for the Gators.

The 49 attempts marked a season-high for Trask. He had previously only thrown over 40 attempts against Ole Miss (42 passes) and Georgia (43 passes) this season. Trask finished 35-of-49 for 433 yards and 4 touchdowns. The redshirt senior leads the nation with 38 touchdown passes in 9 games.
