Shane Beamer had a busy recruiting day on Friday.

Hours after South Carolina landed a pledge from 4-star 2022 quarterback Braden Davis, the Gamecocks added former Washington State defensive back Tyrese Ross from the transfer portal.

Ross told The Big Spur’s Hale McGranahan about his recruitment and commitment to South Carolina.

“It was kind of one of those situations where they were just keeping in contact and they wanted to just wait until after spring ball,” Ross said, “So the DC, Coach [Clayton] White, he reached out a couple of times, called me today and I talked to (defensive backs coach) Coach [Torrian] Gray today and Coach Beamer called me earlier, said they wanted to go ahead and offer me. I committed on the spot. He said he was fired up and couldn’t wait, so it’s time to go. I’m a Gamecock. … (Beamer) reached out to my parents and all after the conversation.”

Ross heads to Columbia after three seasons at Washington State. With the Cougars, he recorded 35 tackles in his career, including 33 in 2019 as a redshirt freshman. This past season, he played in one game, recording two tackles against Oregon.
