A second SEC team hosting a Regional has been eliminated from the 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament. South Carolina has been bounced from the Columbia Regional after falling to Virginia 3-2 in Sunday’s elimination game.

South Carolina, the No. 2 seed in the Columbia Regional, got off to a good start with a Friday win over Virginia. The Gamecocks then dropped the winners’ bracket game to Old Dominion 2-1 on Saturday. On Sunday, UVA got out to a 3-0 lead with runs in the first, second and third innings. From there, Hoos pitching was able to hold onto the lead.

South Carolina managed runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Wes Clarke’s RBI groundout in the sixth plated Brady Allen. In the seventh, Brennan Milone hit a solo home run to left.

In the ninth, the Gamecocks were able to get the tying run on base but failed to bring home against Stephen Schoch, who enthusiastically threw his glove into left field upon completing the seven-out save.

South Carolina finishes the 2021 campaign 34-23. UVA will face Old Dominion in the Columbia Regional Final.
