A future Auburn Tiger has been named the top JUCO defender for the 2020-21 season.

The NJCAA announced that Hutchinson Community College (Kansas) cornerback Roterius Torrence is the season’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Torrence, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, totaled 23 tackles, 5 pass breakups and an interception, which came in the NJCAA Championship Game won for its first national title in program history. He allowed only one player to catch a pass against him this past season.

“Ro plays extremely physical at the line of scrimmage in press coverage and fits very well in coverage on the down-field throws,” Hutchinson head coach Drew Dallas, said via the NJCCA. “His presence on the field was instrumental in our success as a defensive unit. Nearly every week, Ro was able to eliminate the opposing teams best offensive threat at the wide receiver position. This is a tremendous individual honor for him and I am extremely proud of Ro’s progression and development at the cornerback position because of how hard he works and his professional approach to the game.”

Torrence announced his commitment to Auburn on June 6. He is rated 3-stars on 247Sports JUCO. Torrence previously pledged to Tennessee.
