Ed Orgeron knows a good running game when he sees it, and lately for LSU, the Tigers have gone old school with a tight end/fullback punisher in Jack Mashburn.

During his weekly appearance on “Off the Bench” on 104.5 ESPN, Orgeron sung Mashburn’s praises.

“Toughness, very smart,” Orgeron said. “Very competitive young man. As you guys know, he played quarterback at St. Paul. But he’s gotten here, he’s gotten bigger, he’s gotten stronger, he’s an excellent young man, excellent Tiger.”

The Tigers piled up a season-high 321 rushing yards in the win over Florida, with 3 touchdowns.

Orgeron was also asked about the improved play by the offensive line on Saturday.

“The last 2 weeks we’ve been making cut ups of the offensive line knocking the defensive line off the ball,” Orgeron said. “I showed it to the team, they’re making tremendous progress. Brad Davis has done a tremendous job, he stuck to the process. It took a while for the players to learn his system, but now you can see the results. Our guys are playing with confidence, I think Ty Davis-Price is running with confidence. As you said, having Mashburn as the tight end/fullback has helped our run game.”
