Brent Venables' Oklahoma contract details have been released
Brent Venables’ contract details at Oklahoma have been released, and the former Clemson defensive coordinator has terms to coach the Sooners through Jan. 31, 2028.
The contract must be approved by the Board of Regents, but Venables will be paid $6.4 million the first year. His salary increases by $100,000 every February.
Venables was hired to replace Lincoln Riley, who recently left for Southern Cal, as the former Sooners assistant returned to OU as head coach after a successful career as a defensive coordinator.
Venables was on Oklahoma’s staff under Bob Stoops as co-defensive coordinator from 1999-2003 and defensive coordinator from 2004-2011. He was co-defensive coordinator when the Sooners won the 2000 national title. He left Oklahoma for Clemson in 2012 and won the Broyles Award in 2016 as the nation’s top assistant.
He’s been on the staff of teams that have won 3 national titles and appeared in 8 national championship games.
