Billy Napier had a lot to be happy about following Florida’s 29-26 win over No. 7 Utah on Saturday, and much of it had to do with Anthony Richardson.

“We’re figuring out here this guy is a really special player,” Napier said about Anthony Richardson’s 2-point conversion, and also added, “This group has fight in it.”

Then he spoke about the star of the night, the man with the late interception.

“Amari Burney is one of my favorite players,” Napier said. “He’s in his sixth year, he’s played like 1,600 snaps here. I call him old man… to see that guy make the play. I think that’s a special moment for that locker room.”

Napier was asked about the crowd, and said he turned around during the game and said to an assistant coach:

“Can you believe they pay us to do this?,” Napier said. “They made a difference tonight. There’s no doubt about it.”

“We said from the very beginning it was going to take a team effort to get this done, to build, to create momentum, positive energy on the outside. There’s no question that they impacted the game. The University of Florida is a special place, and these people come back because of the way it impacted them. Memories they made here, how it’s impacted their lives and some of those memories are football games in the Swamp.”
