How the West is won hasn’t been decided, but there’s a good chance at least three teams from college football’s best division will be included in the New Year’s Six bowls, possibly in semifinal games, with four teams currently ranked in the CFP committee’s top 11 spots.

RELATED: Week 10 SEC Bowl Projections

On Wednesday, we looked at SEC East bowl possibilities. Here’s our thoughts on the West …

MISSISSIPPI STATE (8-0, 5-0)

Barring a total late-season collapse, Mississippi State will be playing in a New Year’s Six bowl game, but the Bulldogs’ primary focus is to be participating in one of the two that really matter. Even at 11-1 as an at-large incase Mississippi State doesn’t win the SEC, the Bulldogs should get an at-large nod based on strength of schedule and quality wins.

Most likely

  • Playoff Semifinal
  • Peach
  • Orange

Fringe

  • Citrus

AUBURN TIGERS (7-1, 4-1)

Auburn’s in the Playoff if the Tigers win out. Orlando would love to welcome Gus Malzahn’s team to its recently renovated venue for the Citrus Bowl, but don’t expect the Tigers to fall that far if a national semifinal is just out of reach.

Most likely

  • Playoff Semifinal
  • Peach
  • Orange

Fringe

  • Cotton
  • Citrus

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE (7-1, 4-1)

One of several West contenders with big games left, Alabama’s sitting just outside the final four at No. 5 following Tuesday’s latest Playoff rankings reveal and knows what it has do to secure a bid. If the Crimson Tide falter for whatever reason and finish with nine wins during the regular season, they’ll still have a shot at an invite to one of the four non-Playoff New Year’s Six games based on name and prestige alone.

Most likely

  • Playoff Semifinal
  • Peach
  • Orange

Fringe

  • Cotton
  • Citrus

OLE MISS REBELS (7-2, 4-2)

The Citrus Bowl’s crossing their fingers on Ole Miss losing another game, Mississippi State perhaps? Three SEC losses puts the Rebels fourth in the West and gives the Citrus first dibs on the SEC’s top selection once New Year’s Six slots are filled. If they chose an East team, Georgia or Mizzou, Ole Miss would be a slam dunk for Tampa and the Outback Bowl.

Most likely

  • Citrus
  • Outback
  • Peach

Fringe

  • Fiesta

LSU TIGERS (7-2, 3-2)

Hoping for its fifth straight 10 or more-win season, LSU could sneak into a non-semifinal New Year’s game — our guess, Cotton — with a win over Alabama Saturday night along with a strong finish. The most likely invite would come from a bowl committee in Central Florida. The Tigers often travel well and haven’t been to Orlando since 2009.

Most likely

  • Citrus
  • Outback
  • Gator

Fringe

  • Cotton

TEXAS A&M AGGIES (6-3, 2-3)

A 7-5 finish moves the Aggies away from the SEC’s top-tier games and into the second level, good news for Texas Bowl representatives. An A&M vs. Baylor or A&M vs. Texas matchup on Dec. 29 would be a hot-seller and best case scenario situation for the folks in Houston.

Most likely

  • Texas

Fringe

  • Gator
  • Liberty

ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS (4-5, 0-5)

All five of the Razorbacks’ losses this season have come against ranked teams and there’s two more left in the final three games. Arkansas’ bowl chances are minimal and the Birmingham would be one of the only possibilities at 6-6.
