Alabama adds former Mississippi State DB to football staff
Alabama made an intriguing addition to its coaching staff on Sunday afternoon.
Former Mississippi State safety Kivon Coman will join Kalen DeBoer’s staff as a graduate assistant, he announced on Sunday. Coman will specifically be working with defensive backs in Tuscaloosa.
Coman, who played in Starkville from 2013-16, was coaching at Hoover High School.

Coman was a multi-year starter for the Bulldogs. He started 23 games from 2015-16 and recorded 188 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 15 pass breakups and 3 interceptions during his time with the Bulldogs.
He was also a regular contributor on the 2014 team that was ranked No. 1 in the inaugural College Football Playoff rankings. The Bulldogs ended up winning 10 games that season.
Coman attended Florence High School in Florence, Alabama before beginning his collegiate career. After college, Coman was signed as undrafted free agent by the New York Jets in 2017. However, a persistent ankle injury eventually ended his playing career.
Alabama has continued to fill out its coaching and support staff since DeBoer officially took over as head coach last month.
