Paul Finebaum has kept tabs on Alabama’s quarterback competition, and during his regular Monday appearance on WJOX, the ESPN commentator updated reports that Jalen Milroe has separated himself.

Finebaum said he wouldn’t be as surprised about Milroe winning the starting job as he was the day Tyler Buchner showed up from Notre Dame.

“I just could not believe he was coming down to play with his former coach even though his former coach turned on him without some wink and a nod,” Finebaum said.

Buchner’s addition came after Milroe and Ty Simpson went through the spring but couldn’t settle the QB competition, and there was thinking that Buchner was somehow promised something from Nick Saban or former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.

Finebaum noted that it’s an important time for the quarterbacks to find time with teammates, and Finebaum credited Milroe for reportedly working with wide receivers in Tampa.

“But what you’re doing in Tampa, in shorts, is considerably different than what going to be happening 2 months from now on the field in Tuscaloosa,” Finebaum said.
