After Kendall Sheffield failed to show up for two practices in a row, we now know why, as the former five-star recruit reportedly intends to transfer from Alabama.

The news was first reported by Touchdown Alabama.

Sheffield did not see the field for Alabama last season after being redshirted.

Coming out of high school, Sheffield was the No. 20 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 4 cornerback in the country and the No. 3 recruit from the state of Texas, according to 247Sports Composite Ratings. The 2015 Under Armour All-American chose the Crimson Tide over offers from Texas A&M, FSU, Ohio State and USC.

UPDATE: During his Tuesday afternoon press conference with the media, Alabama head coach Nick Saban commented on Sheffield’s absence during the last three practices by saying “I do not know what his status is, so don’t ask me.”
