It feels good to be wanted. Just ask Arkansas defensive coordinator Robb Smith.

According to his boss Bret Bielema, rival schools within the league have sought to steal away the Razorbacks talented defensive coordinator the past two seasons. Something Smith confirmed to Whole Hog Sports, but denied any interest in leaving Fayetteville.

“I really like being an Arkansas Razorback,” Smith said. “I really like the players in our program. I love coming to work and working with these coaches every day.”

While the Razorbacks took a big step back on defense last season following the departure of four NFL draft picks from the defensive side of the ball alone, with so many contributors returning in 2016, the defense looks to be the strength of the team. Don’t be shocked if this defense is Smith’s best unit by season’s end, even surpassing the 2014 defense that featured so many future NFL players.

That season, Arkansas’ defense finished the season ranked No. 2 in total defense, No. 2 in rushing defense, No. 4 in scoring defense and No. 5 in pass defense.

Notwithstanding the overtures from around the league, Smith still has important goals he wants to achieve in Fayetteville that match those of Bielema’s bold statements upon arriving at Arkansas.

“Our goal is to win an SEC championship, and that’s what I want to do, and I want to do it here at Arkansas.”

If they stick together, Smith and Bielema may just be able to accomplish their mission and bring the Razorbacks that elusive SEC title.
