Hugh Freeze finalized the 2 most important members of his coaching staff Sunday.

Ron Roberts was hired as Auburn’s new defensive coordinator, while Philip Montgomery was added as offensive coordinator.

SEC analyst Paul Finebaum appeared Monday on the “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” show and was asked for his thoughts on Freeze’s most recent hires.

Finebaum offered up some high praise.

“Well, I think he’s knocked it out of the park,” Finebaum said. “You’re talking about bringing someone in as OC who was working high school with At Briles. You’re talking about somebody that understands every aspect of offense, especially where the offensive philosophies are today. I think (Freeze has) done extremely well.”

Finebaum also added that he wasn’t surprised that Freeze and Auburn were able to make a couple of quality hires for those roles.

“I don’t think that was ever going be a debate,” Finebaum said. “With the resources that Auburn has and the money behind that school right now and the energy behind that school, you knew that he could go out there and bring in good coordinators, perhaps not to this caliber.

“Now, if he can start paying these dividends off in recruiting, which I’s sure he will, I think Auburn is in a really solid spot.”
