Former Auburn head coach and current ESPN broadcaster Tommy Tuberville believes Tigers’ quarterback Sean White is just as good as Jarrett Stidham.

Tuberville made the comments on WNSP-FM 101.5’s “The Opening Kickoff” show in Mobile, Ala., according to a report from AL.com.

All the hype coming into this season has been centered around Stidham, who transferred to The Plains after posting big numbers at Baylor before suffering a season-ending neck injury.

White, however, is no slouch, Tuberville said.

“I think Auburn’s going to have a good football team,” he said on Thursday. “Now, they’re putting all the pressure on this quarterback. That’s an awful lot. They had a good football team last year. They weren’t able to keep Sean White healthy.

“I think Sean White is as good a quarterback as Stidham.”

“Sean White could start for a whole lot of teams in this league,” Gus Malzahn added.

The Al.com report noted that Tuberville said the biggest difference in Auburn’s offense isn’t the quarterback, but the coordinator calling the plays.

“I think (offensive coordinator) Chip Lindsey is going to bring a better passing attack,” Tuberville said. “Gus is a good football coach. He knows a lot about running an offense. … I think this is a great move out of Gus, saying ‘listen, let’s get a guy in here and improve on what I think we can improve on this offense.'”
