As ACC teams continue to finalize their revised schedule for the 2020 season, Notre Dame has announced its non-conference opponent.

The Fighting Irish will play South Florida on Sept. 19 at Notre Dame Stadium.

The game was first reported by Irish Illustrated, but the school confirmed it on Thursday morning. The game is scheduled for the week after the home-opener against Duke.

Western Michigan, a member of the MAC, was originally scheduled to visit Notre Dame Stadium on Sept. 19. Notre Dame Vice President and Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick previously said a decision had not been made to fill the opening or leave it vacant with 10 ACC games scheduled.

The Bulls are coached by Jeff Scott in his first year after he served as Dabo Swinney’s co-offensive coordinator at Clemson for 12 seasons. Scott’s offensive coordinator is 26-year-old Charlie Weis Jr., son of former Irish head coach Charlie Weis. Weis Jr. was offensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic the past two seasons.

The Bulls finished 4-8 in 2019 under head coach and former Irish assistant Charlie Strong. Strong was fired after 3 seasons. He was 10-2 in 2017 and 7-6 in 2018. The Bulls lost 14 of their last 18 games under Strong. They return 7 starters on each side of the football.
