After a 10-year disassociation with his alma mater, Reggie Bush is officially a member of the USC football family again.

“When I was hired to represent the Trojan Family as the Director of Athletics, I committed to listening and learning before leading. Throughout this process, one of the consistent themes that emerged from my discussions was how much Reggie Bush means to our former players, USC alumni, and fans everywhere,” USC athletic director Mike Bohn said in this week’s announcement.

“I’ve enjoyed getting to know Reggie and so many of his teammates, and I’m pleased his disassociation has ended so that we can welcome him back to our family. I’m confident that Reggie will use his incredible platform and influential voice to support and empower all of our student-athletes.”

Bush’s reinstatement is allowed because of an NCAA Committee on Infractions rule adopted in 2017 limiting any mandated disassociation between an individual and a program to 10 years. Investigators and reporters uncovered that while Bush was at USC he accepted cash, travel expenses and a home for his parents in the San Diego area where they lived rent-free for over a year. Bush’s parents were also provided money to furnish the home. USC was sanctioned by the NCAA and Bush had to return his 2005 Heisman Trophy.

The formal disassociation officially began in June 2010. During that time, he was not welcome on USC campus and had no involvement in the Trojans football program.
