There isn’t enough weed or Jack Daniels to make South Carolina vs Vanderbilt interesting.
I think bringing on Texas and Oklahoma will help Arkansas a lot, getting talent from those areas. The XII will be a mediocre Conference and the best players will want to play SEC ball. Sort of have a mini Southwest/Big 8 conference with Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma State.
Mississippi State was screwed by that downed ball for a touchdown. That was bullsh!t.
I am from Memphis (but didn’t go to school there), and the fans are “fair weather” and only support the team if it is doing well. Memphis has historically been an awful football team and when the team is 4-6 playing Tulane, no one shows up. Literally. Just friends and family of the players. Memphis is also a small market and a poor city in a sixty year old stadium, which isn’t even on Memphis’ campus. Houston on the other hand is HUGE. I don’t know why Tennessee doesn’t play Memphis. Tennessee travels well and Memphis is in the state of Tennessee. It would be interesting what is going to happen with the American Conference. The AAC will have to find replacement teams which means it will poach off of a lower conference like C-USA/Sunbelt etc. should go after Coastal Carolina and Liberty. Sort of surprised the bad trouble of Mike Norvell and Florida State. Norvell was a great coach on Memphis, winning the conference championship. Great coach who was all business. Florida State is awful. Shouldn’t be because Florida has the best talent and the best players seek out the Florida schools and not the coach doing recruiting trips. So blame the coach in Florida if they aren’t getting the kids.
This is the general cycle of Ole Miss football. The timing does vary but this is what happens… Team is dreadful and usually on probation. Coach leaves or is fired. Another guy is hired who will be the savior who will bring Ole Miss back to glory. The season is fair but promising, wins seven games, go to a Dollar General Bowl and dream big for next year. Second year is much better, even knocking off a marquee team, ends up second place in the division. Third year flies high, one heartbreaking loss, but a big win season and a place in a major bowl……… Then (que sad music) The NCAA lays down sanctions for some nonsense. Coach resigns and gets another job. People are disheartened. Read the second paragraph. Ole Miss football is the definition of insanity, doing the same thing and expecting different results.
A bit off the subject but Liberty for the last several years has been a strong minor conference team and the school there has put a lot of effort building it up. Trying to be a Baptist Notre Dame.
As they say, if you see dung in a field, there is a cow nearby.
And Arkansas is in the lower third of SEC football teams. Hogs looked vastly improved but still.
If you are in the Southeast and see a BBQ joint and the pit master is a sweaty, overweight black guy, stop because the food is heavenly. Extra props if the pit master is an OLD black guy. If it’s a skinny white guy, keep driving.
Is Monte a jerk like his son? Lane is a jerk and there is no denying that. Not to say he isn’t a decent football coach, lots of jerkoffs are successful head coaches in college and the pros. Why did he name his son Lane? Lane? I went to high school with a girl named Lane (seriously). Was this like a Johnny Cash song but Lane instead of Sue?
I think Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC will help Arkansas (and Missouri) to talent from Texas if the talent wants to play in the SEC and closer to home.
If I was a multi billionaire, I would have a game for the two worst teams, and offer a generous payout. Two 0-12, 1-11 teams. The name would be the “Smoke a Bowl” but to be family friendly, it would the the “Rooster Bowl”, and the winners get the Golden Rooster Trophy, affectionately known as “Hal”.- The game would be a hit and it is fun to watch two inept teams play. One problem is that the players will think we are mocking them. Would have to pay NIL money.
The cheer for Austin Peay is “Go Peay!” Seriously. Now I have to go make water.
I went to the U of Miss., and have been following Rebels football from afar for about 35 years. I don’t know if the Rebels are good or if Louisville is terrible. It’s one or the other. I saw the game and was somewhat impressed, but how will the team do down the schedule. My prediction is the team will go 9-2 or 8-3. Will lose to Alabama and Texas AM in competitive matchups. Wouldn’t sleep on Tulane since Tulane almost beat Oklahoma. So either again, Tulane is good, or Oklahoma is exposed. Keep reading these Bowl Predictions in the first week of September and saying Oklahoma will be in the final game with Alabama. Again Oklahoma barely won against Tulane…… Also Liberty is a good football team which is nationally ranked the last few years. Also, I hate FBS playing FCS teams. There is no reason for it, there is no need for “tuneup games”. A school should play eight games in conference, three with a team from one of the other “Power 5” Conferences and one game with a team from MWC, CUSA, Sunbelt, MAC or AAC. Boogie Boogie
I like the small bowls and it gives fans and players one more game. No harm. There are 42 of these games and they must be supported and are. I doubt anyone will miss it care about “The Redbox Bowl” or the 6th and 7th place team from the conference represented. More or less 6-6 or 7-5 teams.
Problem is that the public supports these restaurants and support corporate owned everything. Which is why there are Starbucks literally everywhere from Mississippi to China. I have never eaten at an Applebee’s simply because the food there doesn’t really make me or pull me there. It tends to try to make marginal fare more appealing, and I guess it works since there are a thousand of these joints all around the country.
I think the bigger question is why FBS plays FCS. This should be done away with. I don’t care that the FCS school gets paid a lot of money, it isn’t a fair contest. Yes, sometimes an FCS teams does win (even this year with Washington vs Montana) but it’s a joke, unfair to the FCS kids who are punching bags and just gives the FBS school a practice session in front of a bored audience.
I thought UConn was an independent, leaving the AAC a few years back. Plus, many schools are basketball only, or basketball being the main sport and football unimportant. As you know, there are lots of schools who play basketball but are embarrassing on the gridiron and Kansas is a great example. UConn should be competitive in football. People in New England play football, right? They love the Patriots. Near New York City, a good college, should be somewhat competitive. Just aren’t.
I have some ideas about the XII and what should happen. 1. The SEC should merge completely with the BIG XII. 24 teams, and about 18 of these teams are mostly ranked teams. Iowa State would be weird in the SOUTHeast Conference but since this is a fantasy anyway….. 2. Implode the XII. Most of the other school will find other conference homes. The idea to me is to have four 20 to 24 team “super conferences” in six team subdivisions. 3. The smaller conferences outside the “Big 5” (MAC, CUSA, Sunbelt, MWC) should have their own division and their own championship. 4. Keep the XII and merge most of the AAC with it. The college American Conference is a really decent and better than the lesser conferences in my third column. That would get the XII to 20 or so and can rename the conference the XXI.
Screw the polls where the sun done shine. The idea is to win the division and win the SEC championship which is more or less a bid for the Final Four playoff. Rankings are sort of BS and polls always get exposed, and really polls shouldn’t really be tallied until after the second week but we all love them and want them in August.
No Vanderbilt, South Carolina or Arkansas. Vanderbilt is not a surprise since the team is historically bad and a door mat. Arkansas seems cursed the last several years but feel that including Texas and Oklahoma in the SEC will be good for Arkansas and the Hogs will get a lot of kids from Texas and Oklahoma. Don’t know about South Carolina. Spurrier has the team going but it’s also an also ran. But if your school in the SEC doesn’t even make a bowl while Missouri, Kentucky and the Mississippi teams do, your teams are lousy as ****.

I for one have never understood Applebee’s or why Applebee’s even exists. What is the identity of this place? I sort of see it prospering in either small towns with limited choices, or in big cities sort of strategic located near hotels and places of interest. A place to stop off the highway after driving cross country in a strange community instead of yet another McDonalds. I don’t watch commercials. I watch my TV online. If I am watching a live feed of a game (like I did last weekend), I just mute the sound. If I am watching TV, just mute the commercials. Use the bathroom, make a sandwich, play with your mobile device. Applebee’s can have their stupid advertisement and ass shaking.
The way Oklahoma played Tulane, at home, does anyone really think that OU will make the championship game? Yikes. Alabama isn’t invincible either, no matter the hype. Texas AM and Georgia look strong. Alabama is playing Mercer this weekend. Mercer? Mercer is a city college in Atlanta with 5000 students.
