Dan Mullen has a complicated relationship with Florida fans. On Saturday, he sent Gator Nation a friendly message.

In a post on social media, Mullen wished UF fans a happy Homecoming by sharing a short video with the Florida fight song playing.

Mullen has plenty of good memories in Gainesville, but his tenure as head coach ended with his firing in 2021. Mullen is in his second season as an ESPN analyst, and comments about his former team often generate reactions on social media and message boards.

Ahead of UF’s game against Tennessee, Mullen turned heads with a remark about the state of the Gator roster under his successor, Billy Napier:

“Florida might not be where they were a few years ago, but they’re still Florida, they’re still going to be a good team, it’s still The Swamp on a Saturday night in a huge game,” Mullen said on the Matt Barrie Show.

Mullen was wrong in his pick for Tennessee to win. After UF’s dominant victory, acknowledged Florida and Trevor Etienne as Week 3 top performers.

In Week 5, Mullen was part of the halftime studio crew for the Florida-Kentucky game. Mullen used “we” in reference to the Gators when talking about halftime adjustments UF needed to make against UK.

Florida is hosting Vanderbilt for homecoming. Saturday’s game is set for 4 p.m. ET, airing on the SEC Network.
