Florida has reached into the NFL to hire its new defensive backs coach, and the new Billy Napier assistant is expected to join the Gators this week.

The Gators have searched for a replacement for former secondary coach Corey Raymond, who Napier parted ways with late last month.

Will Harris is Napier’s latest hire, according to Zach Abolverdi, as he will come from the Los Angeles Chargers. Harris played at Southern Cal (2005-09) and briefly in the NFL and CFL with the Seattle Seahawks (2010) and Edmonton Eskimos (2010). A safety under Pete Carroll with the Trojans, Harris had 113 tackles and 6 interceptions in his college career before he went undrafted in 2010.

Harris previously coached at Georgia Southern in 2022 as defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach, and from 2018-21 at Washington (defensive backs), 2016-17 at San Jose State (defensive backs), 2015 at Dixie College (defensive backs/co-defensive coordinator/recruiting coordinator), 2014 at Humboldt State (defensive backs) and 2013 at Northwestern Oklahoma State (defensive backs).
