Florida-based writer Mark Long of the Associated Press joined Utah-based show KSL Sports Tuesday with an interesting claim about Florida’s offseason.

Long told KSL that Florida “kicked the tires on a bunch of guys hoping they could get a transfer quarterback to come and bail them out.” This came after the departures of Jalen Kitna due to child pornography charges (which were later reduced to misdemeanors, he would enter the transfer portal) and Jaden Rashada to Arizona State following NIL complications.

Cam Rising was one of the players Florida allegedly contacted.

The Utah star quarterback suffered an ACL injury during last year’s Rose Bowl against Penn State. His status for Thursday’s matchup against the Gators is still unknown as of Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. ET.

Here’s what Long had to say:

“From what I understand, they at least made a phone call to gauge interest in whether or not Cam Rising- a guy they watched in the Swamp,” Long said, via KSL. “A dynamic player. 91 yards rushing in Gainesville in that opener. Should have won the game by all accounts. Anybody who is not wearing orange and blue glasses can tell you that Utah should have won that game. From what I understand they at least made an inquiry into if he was looking to transfer.”

Here’s Long’s full comments on his claim:

Florida takes on Utah in Salt Lake City on Thursday with Wisconsin transfer Graham Mertz at the helm of the offense. The game is set to kick at 8 p.m. ET and will be aired on ESPN.
