Now that the Florida Gators are on the hunt for a new football coach, Oregon coach Willie Taggart’s name has been brought up as a potential candidate.

On Monday, it was reported that Florida had reached out to Taggart’s camp and were strongly considering him for the position.

However, on Monday afternoon, Taggart joined ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM to say he hadn’t heard from the Gators and was simply focusing on Oregon’s upcoming game vs. Washington:

“I haven’t talked to anybody from there,” he said. “I think that’s sort of the world we live in now. When you associate close to a place, your name will kind of be thrown out there. But my sole focus is is on this football team and this really good Washington team that we’ve got to face this week.

“I haven’t talked to anyone and I’m only focused on Washington.”

It’s a good bet that Taggart’s name will continue to come up in rumors, even if there’s nothing to them.

After building USF into a powerful program, Taggart’s ties to the Florida area make him an intriguing candidate for the Gators.
