According to footballscoop.com, Gators offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier is one of the top candidates for the head coaching position at Southern Miss.

Nussmeier interviewed for the job on Wednesday, and apparently it went very well.

If Nussmeier is hired by the Golden Eagles, it isn’t exactly good news for Florida. It looks like the Gators can’t hold on to offensive coordinators, since they will be looking for their fifth in six years. Dan Mullen (Mississippi State), Steve Addazio (Temple) and Charlie Weis (Kansas) were all hired as head coaches after serving as top assistants in Gainesville, but Brent Pease and Kurt Roper were fired and let go, respectively.

Nussmeier has only had one season with the Gators, but he was the second-highest-paid assistant in 2015.

He has been an offensive coordinator since 2008, but he has divided those eight years among five schools: Fresno State (2008), Washington (2009-2011), Alabama (2012-2013), Michigan (2014) and Florida (2015).
