Dalvin Cook’s younger brother announced some big news on Tuesday afternoon. James Cook, a Miami native, decommitted from Florida State and Jimbo Fisher, a commitment he made earlier this spring.

While the news is unfortunate for Florida State, the Seminoles loss could be Georgia’s gain.

Cook made the announcement via his Twitter account:

Previously, the 247Sports Crystal Ball listed James Cook at 88 percent to Florida State and just 12 percent to Georgia. But that commitment cracked in recent days as Cook said his only planned visits were to “UGA, UGA, UGA,” as he was quoted by 247Sports. He also discussed a possible combination with recent Georgia commit Zamir White.

“I would start as a freshman,” he said. “Zamir White, we would be thunder and lightning.”

Cook retweeted a tweet that mentioned that scenario.

Cook is rated as nation’s No. 3 running back prospect and No. 33 player overall by the 247Sports composite. Cook has at least 18 offers and is listed at 5-foot-11 and a half and 181 pounds. The obvious recruiting pitch to White and Cook from Georgia is that given the pending departures after this season of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, there is expected to be plenty of playing time in 2018.

Cook and his mom have been recruited by Kirby Smart, Running Backs Coach Dell McGee and area recruiter James Coley.

If Georgia can flip Cook and keep White, it would mean the Bulldogs secure three top five running backs in two years after they signed in D’Andre Swift in the 2017 class.
