Georgia’s ranking was one of the leading storylines ahead of the first College Football Playoff top 25 of the season.

UGA has long been ranked No. 1 by voters in the Associated Press Top 25. Some pundits expected the Bulldogs might be No. 3 or No. 4 due to how their 2023 resume stacks up to other teams. Georgia was ultimately ranked No. 2, behind Ohio State and ahead of Michigan.

After Tuesday’s rankings reveal on ESPN, CFP selection committee chair Boo Corrigan took questions from media members. He was asked about Georgia landing at No. 2 with a strength of schedule that ranks lower than others.

“Well, I think you look at the rivalry game with Florida and the way they played the game against Kentucky, and to win that 51-13, added to the fact that Brock Bowers did not play against Florida,” Corrigan said. “Their overall team makeup, team speed, defense allowing about 14 points a game, in total body of work, you’ve got to be able to make these decisions as you’re looking at it.”

Georgia should not have to worry about further strength of schedule questions. Saturday begins a 3-game stretch against No. 12 Mizzou, No. 10 Ole Miss and No. 17 Tennessee. Greg McElroy shared that he expects UGA would move up to No. 1 if it wins all 3 games.
