After winning an SEC championship and making it all the way to the national title game this past season, Georgia coach Kirby Smart and his assistants are going to get raises.

To pay for those raises, though, the Bulldogs will raise ticket prices for the 2018 season. The Georgia athletic board approved the ticket price raise and after the meeting, AD Greg McGarity set a timeline for the coaching pay raises.

According to Macon.com, McGarity said the ticket price hike will help pay for the raises, which he expects to be instituted after next week’s National Signing Day:

“We plan to make substantial adjustments to the compensation of our football staff,” McGarity said before the board voted, “which will necessitate these ticket increases.”

Georgia fans may not be happy with the price increase, but the Bulldogs are a hot ticket these days.

McGarity explained that the ticket price increase is necessary to pay the coaches, as the Dawgs don’t want to take money away from other sports:

“The one thing we all have to realize is that football’s really our only source of significant revenue,” McGarity said. “In order to maintain our other 20 sports — it’s not my intent to go to other programs and have cuts. It’s not fair. It’s not the Georgia model. We treat all sports equitably. This was a way to be able to fully fund those other sports at the same level.”

As long as Smart keeps putting a winning product on the field, Georgia fans will likely pay more for tickets and do so with smiles on their faces.
